Birth of the Republic

The background to the birth of the Italian Republic is narrated, from the Liberation to the institutional referendum of 1946 in conjunction with the election of the Constituent Assembly.

A grandfather tells his grandson about the memories, weeks and uncertainties of the institutional referendum of June 2 and 3, 1946, walking among the main symbols of the Liberation struggle and the palaces of power in the Italian capital, from Porta San Paolo to the Quirinale.

In the third documentary, the construction of the republican state is described, starting with the debate of the Constituent Assembly from 1946 to 1947, that would have led to the approval of the new Constitution.
