The Highest-Grossing Films of 2026 So Far — and Where to Stream Them in India

The biggest film of the year and the tenth-biggest ever released. It opened on 31 July to the largest domestic weekend in history — $360 million, beating Avengers: Endgame — and hit $1 billion worldwide in six days. Sixty per cent of its money has come from outside North America. Still in cinemas, with no India streaming date announced.

Christopher Nolan's Homer adaptation, with Matt Damon as Odysseus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope and Tom Holland as Telemachus. It has passed $1.12 billion, overtaking The Dark Knight Rises as Nolan's biggest film, and it is the highest-grossing R-rated release of the year. Notable for being the first feature shot entirely with IMAX 70mm film cameras — and for the fact that only around 26 screens in the US can actually project it that way.

Pixar back at a billion for the first time since Inside Out 2, with a $472 million domestic run that is ahead of Toy Story 4's. Whatever anyone thinks about a fifth film in a series that has ended twice, it is the clearest signal Disney has had that the studio's problem was three straight streaming-only releases rather than the films themselves.

Antoine Fuqua's Michael Jackson biopic, with Jaafar Jackson as his uncle — the first biopic in history to cross $1 billion, and Lionsgate's first billion-dollar film. Sixty-three per cent of its gross is international, which for a subject this specifically American is the surprising part. Reviews were mixed; it did not matter.

Illumination and Nintendo's second Mario film, and the fifth of 2026 to clear $1 billion. It is the highest-grossing film on this list currently available on an Indian subscription service — JioHotstar has it — which makes it the practical winner for anyone reading this at home.

Twenty years on from the original, and it made roughly twice what the first one did — $691.9 million, on a $100 million budget, with 68 per cent of that coming from overseas. The most profitable film on this list by a wide margin, and the strongest evidence in years that adult comedies still work theatrically when the brand is strong enough.

The year's first hit, out in March, and the highest-grossing original science fiction film since Interstellar. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller directing Ryan Gosling in an Andy Weir adaptation should not have been a $684 million proposition, and the near-even domestic/international split is unusual for the genre. Han Han's Chinese racing sequel, $656 million worldwide, of which $1.37 million came from North America. It is the eighth-biggest film of 2026 and almost nobody outside China has heard of it — a reminder that the global box office and the Hollywood box office stopped being the same thing some time ago.

The year's biggest original horror success and one of its best-reviewed wide releases, at $488 million on a domestic-leaning split. Horror is the one genre that has never stopped delivering theatrically and this is 2026's proof of it. Not yet on an Indian subscription service — rental only for now.

Illumination's second entry in the 2026 top twenty, which is the sort of thing only Illumination does. $475 million on a budget a fraction of anything above it on this list — the studio's entire operating model is being the cheapest producer of billion-dollar-adjacent animation in the business.

A horror film adapted from an internet creepypasta, made cheap, and $394 million later it is one of the most profitable releases of the year. It is also the clearest generational marker on this list: its audience is almost entirely under 25, and it was sold on platforms most studio marketing departments still treat as a supplement.

Pixar's original, out in March, at $390 million — a respectable number that looks small next to Toy Story 5 and is exactly the comparison the studio's originals keep losing. Already on JioHotstar in India, which is the fastest turnaround of anything in this top twelve.
