August is a heavier month than Indian streaming usually gets in the middle of the year, and the reason is the mix. Two of the biggest returning shows in English-language television land inside a week of each other, a Hindi theatrical hit that took 186 crore arrives on JioHotstar, and Netflix is running a Hindi film and a Hindi series out of the same week.

Below is what has been dated and announced for India this month, in release order. Ranking a release calendar by anything other than date would be an invention, so this list is not ranked by size or by our opinion of it — position one is simply the first thing that landed.

Dates are the announced Indian premiere dates. Streaming schedules slip more often than theatrical ones, particularly for titles whose India date is set separately from the US one, so a card here reflects the plan rather than a guarantee.

Three years after a finale that was written as an ending, Ted Lasso came back for a fourth season, and it is the month's first significant arrival. Apple TV+ is the smallest of the services in this list by Indian subscriber base, which makes the show one of the few titles that genuinely moves people onto it.

    Netflix
    India premiere7 August · Netflix

A Hindi film going straight to Netflix rather than through a theatrical window. The straight-to-streaming Hindi release has stopped being a consolation prize over the last two years and become a distinct category with its own economics, and August has two of them.

  3. 3/9Operation Safed Sagar: The Untold Story of the Kargil War

A Hindi series landing the same day as the Hindi film above it, on the same service, in the week before Independence Day — a scheduling choice that is not a coincidence given what the title refers to. Safed Sagar was the Indian Air Force's 1999 Kargil operation.

  4. 4/9Reacher (Season 4)

India premiere12 August · Prime Video

Prime Video's most reliable returning property in India, and the one show on this list whose Indian audience is large enough to show up in weekly viewership charts. Fourth season, same week as the Independence Day slate it has to compete with.

  5. 5/9One Hundred Years of Solitude (Part 2)

    Netflix8.0
    India premiere13 August · Netflix

The second half of Netflix's Spanish-language adaptation of the Garcia Marquez novel, a production the estate refused to permit for fifty years. Subtitled literary drama is not a category with a large Indian audience, but it is the most ambitious thing arriving this month by some distance.

  6. 6/9Cocktail 2

    Cocktail 2

    Film · 2026 · Hindi · Jun 19, 2026

    5.8
    India premiere14 August · Netflix

A sequel to the 2012 film, arriving on Netflix on the Friday before Independence Day — the single most contested slot in the Indian streaming calendar, and Netflix has put a Hindi title in it.

  7. 7/9Lanterns

    Lanterns

    Series · 2026 · English · Aug 16, 2026

    India premiere17 August · JioHotstar

The DC series lands on JioHotstar in India rather than on a Warner-owned service, which is what the HBO output deal means here: the biggest American prestige titles reach Indian viewers on the platform whose subscriber base was built on cricket.

  8. 8/9Outer Banks (Season 5)

Fifth and final season of a teen adventure series that has outlasted almost everything launched alongside it. Netflix's young-adult slate rarely tops Indian charts but rarely leaves them either.

    Worldwide gross186.83 crore

The month's most consequential arrival for anyone tracking box office. Welcome to the Jungle took 186.83 crore worldwide in cinemas in June, fifth on [the year's Hindi leaderboard](/blog/highest-grossing-hindi-films), and until this date it was one of the biggest 2026 Indian films with no streaming home anywhere. Eight weeks from theatrical to OTT is now the normal Hindi window.

Two things are worth noticing about the shape of this month. The first is that four of the nine are returning seasons of established shows rather than new properties — the streaming business in India has reached the stage where its calendar is mostly maintenance of things that already work. The second is that JioHotstar takes both the American prestige title and the Hindi theatrical hit, which is the combination that used to define two separate services.

For what has already reached streaming this year there is the Hindi leaderboard and the 100-crore club; for what India is actually watching week to week, the Ormax chart.
