Every Marvel Cinematic Universe Film in Order — and Where to Stream Them in India
Thirty-eight films in eighteen years, and four of them are missing from JioHotstar in India — including the one that made $1.3 billion. The full MCU running order, with the platform for each, before Avengers: Doomsday arrives in December.

Thirty-eight Marvel Cinematic Universe films have been released since Iron Man opened in May 2008, the most recent being Spider-Man: Brand New Day at the end of July 2026. Avengers: Doomsday arrives in cinemas in December, which makes the next four months the last comfortable window to catch up before the film that is meant to pull the whole multiverse back together.
This list is in release order, which is how the films were designed to be watched — the surprises land where the writers put them, and the end-credits scenes make sense as promises rather than callbacks. Story-chronological order is a legitimate alternative and we set out where it differs at the end of the page.
The second column is the one that is genuinely awkward in India. Most of the MCU is on JioHotstar, which absorbed Disney+ Hotstar's catalogue after the Jio-Disney merger. But the Spider-Man films are distributed by Sony and sit on a different set of services, and four films are not on JioHotstar at all — two of them, at the time of writing, are not on any Indian subscription service. Every platform tag below is live India data, not a US listing.
1/38Iron Man

Film · 2008 · English · Apr 30, 2008
JioHotstarReleased 2 May 2008 Phase Phase One The film the whole thing is built on. Jon Favreau's Iron Man was a risk taken with a second-tier character and a studio's own money, and Robert Downey Jr's casting is still the single most consequential decision in the series. Watch the credits scene; it is where the idea of a shared universe is first said out loud. On JioHotstar in India.
2/38The Incredible Hulk

Film · 2008 · English · Jun 12, 2008
JioHotstarReleased 13 June 2008 Phase Phase One The orphan of the MCU: Universal holds the distribution rights, Edward Norton never played the part again, and almost nothing in it is load-bearing for what follows. Skippable on a first run through, and the only reason to come back is William Hurt's Thaddeus Ross, who matters much later. On JioHotstar in India.
3/38Iron Man 2

Film · 2010 · English · Apr 28, 2010
JioHotstarReleased 7 May 2010 Phase Phase One The film where the connective tissue starts crowding out the story — Black Widow arrives, Nick Fury's role expands, and the Avengers are visibly being set up around a plot that never quite arrives. Worth it for Sam Rockwell. On JioHotstar in India.
4/38Thor

Film · 2011 · English · Apr 21, 2011
JioHotstarReleased 6 May 2011 Phase Phase One Kenneth Branagh directing Shakespeare in space, which sounds like a joke until you notice how well the family drama works. It introduces Loki, who becomes the most durable character in the franchise. On JioHotstar in India.
5/38Captain America: The First Avenger

Film · 2011 · English · Jul 22, 2011
JioHotstarReleased 22 July 2011 Phase Phase One A 1940s war film with a superhero in it, and the earliest chapter in the MCU's internal chronology apart from a Captain Marvel flashback. If you are watching in story order rather than release order, this is where you start. On JioHotstar in India.
6/38The Avengers

Film · 2012 · English · Apr 25, 2012
JioHotstarReleased 4 May 2012 Phase Phase One The payoff that justified four years of setup and changed how studios plan a decade. Joss Whedon's team-up is still the cleanest demonstration of what the format can do, and the New York battle is referenced for the next fifteen years. On JioHotstar in India.
7/38Iron Man 3

Film · 2013 · English · Apr 18, 2013
JioHotstarReleased 3 May 2013 Phase Phase Two Shane Black's post-traumatic Tony Stark film, with a twist about the Mandarin that split the audience permanently and a Christmas setting nobody expected. It is the most personal of the Iron Man films and the least interested in the wider universe. On JioHotstar in India.
8/38Thor: The Dark World

Film · 2013 · English · Oct 30, 2013
JioHotstarReleased 8 November 2013 Phase Phase Two Generally agreed to be the weakest entry in the series, and the one whose plot device — the Aether, one of the Infinity Stones — is the only reason it stays essential. Skip it if you must; read the stone's whereabouts on a wiki if you do. On JioHotstar in India.
9/38Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Film · 2014 · English · Mar 20, 2014
JioHotstarReleased 4 April 2014 Phase Phase Two The Russo brothers' first MCU film and the one that changed the register: a paranoid 1970s conspiracy thriller in which S.H.I.E.L.D. collapses from the inside. It has aged better than almost anything else here. On JioHotstar in India.
10/38Guardians of the Galaxy

Film · 2014 · English · Jul 30, 2014
JioHotstarReleased 1 August 2014 Phase Phase Two James Gunn took a talking raccoon and a walking tree and made the funniest and most sincere film in the franchise. It also proved Marvel could sell an audience on characters nobody outside comics shops had heard of. On JioHotstar in India.
12/38Ant-Man

Film · 2015 · English · Jul 14, 2015
JioHotstarReleased 17 July 2015 Phase Phase Two A heist comedy at the smallest scale the MCU had attempted, made after Edgar Wright left the project. Paul Rudd is the reason it lands, and the quantum realm it introduces becomes structurally important in Endgame. On JioHotstar in India.
13/38Captain America: Civil War

Film · 2016 · English · Apr 27, 2016
JioHotstarReleased 6 May 2016 Phase Phase Three An Avengers film in a Captain America film's clothing, and the moment the series stopped needing an external villain to generate conflict. It also introduces Black Panther and this continuity's Spider-Man. On JioHotstar in India.
14/38Doctor Strange
16/38Spider-Man: Homecoming

Film · 2017 · English · Jul 5, 2017
NetflixPrime VideoJioHotstarReleased 7 July 2017 Phase Phase Three The first Spider-Man film made under the Sony-Marvel arrangement, and a deliberate reset to a high-school scale after two previous screen versions. The Sony deal is also why the Spider-Man films sit on different Indian platforms from the rest — this one is on Netflix, Prime Video and JioHotstar.
17/38Thor: Ragnarok
18/38Black Panther
20/38Ant-Man and the Wasp
21/38Captain Marvel

Film · 2019 · English · Mar 6, 2019
JioHotstarReleased 8 March 2019 Phase Phase Three Set in 1995, so in story order it sits second, right after The First Avenger. It fills in Nick Fury's history and the Tesseract's, and it exists mainly to put Carol Danvers on the board before Endgame. On JioHotstar in India.
22/38Avengers: Endgame

Film · 2019 · English · Apr 24, 2019
JioHotstarReleased 26 April 2019 Phase Phase Three The highest-grossing film of all time for two years and the end of the Infinity Saga. Twenty-two films land here, and the three-hour running time is spent paying off arcs rather than starting new ones. On JioHotstar in India.
23/38Spider-Man: Far From Home

Film · 2019 · English · Jun 28, 2019
NetflixPrime VideoJioHotstarSonyLIVReleased 2 July 2019 Phase Phase Three The epilogue to Endgame, dealing with a world five years out of step with itself, plus Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio. Like the other Spider-Man films it is spread across Netflix, Prime Video, JioHotstar and SonyLIV in India.
24/38Black Widow

Film · 2021 · English · Jul 7, 2021
JioHotstarReleased 9 July 2021 Phase Phase Four Delayed by the pandemic and released after its character's death, which is an awkward place to start a phase from. Taken on its own it is a decent spy thriller and it hands the Black Widow identity to Florence Pugh's Yelena. On JioHotstar in India.
26/38Eternals

Film · 2021 · English · Nov 3, 2021
JioHotstarReleased 5 November 2021 Phase Phase Four Chloe Zhao's film is the most formally ambitious thing Marvel has released and the most divisive, covering seven thousand years and a cast of ten. Nothing in the franchise has picked its threads up since. On JioHotstar in India.
32/38Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Film · 2023 · English · May 3, 2023
Released 5 May 2023 Phase Phase Five Gunn's farewell to the team and the best-reviewed MCU film of the 2020s, built around Rocket's backstory and a great deal of animal cruelty that the film refuses to soften. In India it is not on JioHotstar — the only listing is VI movies and tv, which is an odd place to find one of the franchise's high points.
33/38The Marvels

Film · 2023 · English · Nov 8, 2023
Released 10 November 2023 Phase Phase Five The lowest-grossing MCU film, at 105 minutes the shortest, and better than its reputation — a body-swap comedy with Iman Vellani's Ms Marvel carrying most of it. Like Vol. 3 it is missing from JioHotstar in India and listed only on VI movies and tv.
34/38Deadpool & Wolverine

Film · 2024 · English · Jul 24, 2024
Released 26 July 2024 Phase Phase Five The first R-rated MCU film, the year's biggest hit, and a two-hour argument about what happens to Fox's characters now that Disney owns them. It has no Indian subscription streaming home at the time of writing, which is remarkable for a film that made $1.3 billion — rental only.
36/38Thunderbolts*

Film · 2025 · English · Apr 30, 2025
JioHotstarReleased 2 May 2025 Phase Phase Five A team film about depression, which is not a sentence anyone expected to write about Marvel, and the strongest reviews the studio had received in years. The asterisk in the title is the joke and the point. On JioHotstar in India.
38/38Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Film · 2026 · English · Jul 29, 2026
Released 31 July 2026 Phase Phase Six The newest MCU film, out in cinemas at the end of July 2026 and now the second-highest-grossing film of the year worldwide. It is not streaming anywhere yet — a Sony-distributed Spider-Man film typically takes several months to reach Indian streaming, and when it does the Sony deal means it may not land on JioHotstar.
If you would rather watch in story order, four moves are all it takes. Captain America: The First Avenger goes first, because most of it happens in 1942. Captain Marvel goes second, because it is set in 1995. Black Widow slots in between Civil War and Infinity War rather than after Endgame, where its release date puts it. And Spider-Man: Homecoming follows Civil War directly. Everything else is in roughly the right place already.
The awkward truth for an Indian viewer is that a complete watch-through is not currently possible on subscriptions alone. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Marvels are listed only on VI movies and tv; Deadpool & Wolverine and Captain America: Brave New World have no Indian subscription home at the time of writing, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still in cinemas. Four of the 38, plus the newest one, need renting or waiting.
Avengers: Doomsday is dated 18 December 2026 and Avengers: Secret Wars a year after that. For what the rest of the year holds in cinemas, see our Hollywood films still coming in 2026; for the box office context, the 2026 leaderboard and every Spider-Man film ranked.
Frequently asked
- How many Marvel Cinematic Universe films are there?
- Thirty-eight have been released as of 21 August 2026, from Iron Man in May 2008 to Spider-Man: Brand New Day in July 2026. Avengers: Doomsday, due on 18 December 2026, will be the thirty-ninth.
- Should I watch the MCU in release order or chronological order?
- Release order, for a first watch. The films were written to be seen that way, so reveals and end-credits scenes land as intended. Chronological order mainly moves Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain Marvel to the front and shifts Black Widow earlier.
- Where can I watch the Marvel films in India?
- Most of the MCU is on JioHotstar. The Spider-Man films are Sony-distributed and are spread across Netflix, Prime Video, SonyLIV and JioHotstar. Four films are not on JioHotstar: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Marvels are listed on VI movies and tv, while Deadpool & Wolverine and Captain America: Brave New World have no Indian subscription home at the time of writing.
- Which MCU films can I skip?
- The Incredible Hulk is the least connected to anything that follows, and Thor: The Dark World matters mainly because of the Infinity Stone in it. Everything else pays off somewhere, though Eternals has so far led nowhere.
