Gondhal Is India's Oscar Entry for 2027 — and Where to Stream Every Indian Entry Since Court
A Marathi thriller set during a night-long folk ritual will represent India at the 99th Academy Awards. Here are the twelve films India has sent since 2015, what happened to each one, and which you can stream today.

The Film Federation of India has picked Gondhal, a Marathi film written and directed by Santosh Davakhar, as the country's submission for Best International Feature Film at the 99th Academy Awards. A 14-member jury chaired by the Kannada filmmaker P. Sheshadri chose it from 33 films. Among the other submissions, according to NewsBricks, were Dhurandhar, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, Border 2 and Haq.
India's record in this category is short. Only three Indian films have ever been nominated: Mother India in 1958, Salaam Bombay! in 1989 and Lagaan in 2002. None won. Since then the best India has managed is a place on the Academy's 15-film shortlist, which Last Film Show reached in 2023 and Homebound in 2026.
Below is Gondhal followed by every Indian entry back to 2015, newest first, with what each one achieved. Seven of the twelve are on a subscription service in India today. Two can only be rented, and three, Gondhal among them, are not streaming anywhere in India yet.
