The Best Anime Series to Stream in India, From Death Note to Frieren

Sixteen anime series worth starting, from finished classics to shows still airing new seasons, with the studio behind each one and where it streams in India on Netflix, Crunchyroll, SonyLIV, JioHotstar and Prime Video.

Ravi Malhotra · · 6 min read

Anime is one of the fastest-growing kinds of international content on Indian streaming, and India is one of the fastest-growing markets for it. Crunchyroll, the specialist service, sells subscriptions here, and Netflix, SonyLIV, JioHotstar and Prime Video all carry large anime catalogues, many with Hindi, Tamil and Telugu dubs.

The sixteen series below are in order of first broadcast, not ranked. Several have finished on television, so a whole story can be watched from start to finish; others are still adding seasons. They cover the forms a newcomer is likely to want: detective thriller, fantasy adventure, sports, comedy, horror and science fiction.

Every series here streams in India at the time of writing, most of them on more than one service. The platform chips under each title are live availability, though not every service carries every season, so check a series' own page before you start.

Platform chips are live India availability from OTTweek's provider data at the time of writing; a service may carry only some seasons of a long series, and dubbed audio varies by service.
